Penn State Scranton Names Enrico Mastroianni Director of Athletics and Recreation

Penn State Scranton has named Enrico Mastroianni its new director of athletics and recreation. 

Mastroianni will oversee Penn State Scranton’s intercollegiate athletics, recreation, club sports and wellness programming. He will also work with students, coaches, faculty, staff, alumni and community partners to strengthen the student experience and support the University’s educational mission.

A Penn State graduate, Mastroianni returns to the University with more than 20 years of experience in collegiate athletics, athletic administration, student development, enrollment and higher education.

Most recently, Mastroianni served as athletic director at Abington Heights School District. In that position, he oversaw 36 varsity programs and 17 junior high programs while leading facility improvements, modernizing departmental operations and expanding the department’s technology, communications and event-management systems.

Before entering athletic administration, Mastroianni spent nearly two decades working in collegiate athletics. He served as head men’s basketball coach at Marywood University, Georgian Court University and Centenary College. He also held positions in student development, academic support, admissions and teaching at Misericordia University while serving as an assistant men’s basketball coach.

Throughout his career, Mastroianni has contributed to student recruitment, fundraising, academic-success programming, leadership development, game operations and community engagement.

“I believe athletics and recreation are powerful catalysts for connection, leadership and belonging,” Mastroianni said. “My vision is to create an environment where every student feels welcomed, engaged and connected to campus life.”

Mastroianni earned a master of education degree from Misericordia University and a bachelor of science in marketing and international business from Penn State.

Penn State Scranton Athletics looks forward to welcoming Mastroianni and beginning this new chapter under his leadership.
