Shannon Thomas
Sophomore Pitcher Shows Confidence, Strength
Shannon Thomas is not one to give up when the going gets tough. Starting pitcher for the past two seasons on the PSU Scranton Softball team Shannon usually pitches a full double header and never complains. A Wallenpaupack graduate Shannon played softball throughout her high school career playing nearly every position before finding her niche on 3rd base. At Wallenpaupack Shannon received the Coaches Award her senior year and also excelled academically as she earned the Silver Academic Award multiple times. Her knowledge of the infield helped her as she started pitching at Penn State under Coach John Foy. Although this past weekend the team fell short to Penn State New Kensington Coach Foy stated that Shannon never gave up throughout the doubleheader, focusing hard and coming out strong in the second game with confidence earning multiple strike outs and pitching with power.
Shannon, an Elementary Education major works as a camp counselor in the area working with young people over the summer helping them develop their talents for sports, recreation and the arts. Shannon has three sisters, loves to take care of her English Mastiff, Jake, has a passion for softball, teaching young people and traveling; Puerto Rico currently topping her list of places she has visited. Her favorite athlete is Jennie Finch and her motto, “Don’t let anyone take away what you’ve worked for, play your own game.”
Congratulations Shannon!
